The Little Venice of Spain: A Holiday in Empuriabrava (Ampuriabrava)

Empuriabrava, also known as Ampuriabrava, was founded in 1967 and is affectionately referred to as the "little Venice of Spain." Picturesquely situated on the Gulf of Roses on the Costa Brava, this charming town has developed into one of the most beautiful water sports centers in Europe. Once emerging from a former swamp area, today Empuriabrava shines as a Mediterranean holiday paradise, designed after the model of Florida.

The heart of Empuriabrava is the more than 30 kilometers of navigable canals that wind through the town, giving it its unique charm. With over 5,000 mooring spots, Empuriabrava's marina is the largest in Europe. Many of the luxurious villas and holiday homes feature gardens with private pools and their own docking spaces, allowing boats to anchor right at the doorstep. Thanks to a smart road system, properties are easily accessible by both car and boat.

In addition to its famous marina, Empuriabrava is also a hotspot for skydivers. The European skydiver center offers exciting tandem jumps for thrill-seekers. Water sports enthusiasts can enjoy activities such as windsurfing, kitesurfing, and sailing. Additionally, there are numerous hiking and biking trails that lead through the scenic landscape. The town is bordered by the two rivers Ríu La Muga and Rec els Salins, perfectly complementing the idyllic panorama.

The expansive, gently sloping sandy beach of Platja d'Empuriabrava stretches for 1.6 kilometers and is one of the widest beaches on the Costa Brava, making it perfect for sunbathing, swimming, and relaxation.

A special highlight for dog owners is the Rubina dog beach, located towards Santa Margarita. Here, dogs can run free, whereas at the main beach, dogs are unfortunately not allowed, even if leashed.

The town center boasts arcaded boulevards lined with numerous shops, bars, music pubs, and nightclubs that come to life especially in the evenings, offering entertainment for all tastes.

Nearby, enticing excursion destinations include Figueres, the birthplace of surrealist artist Salvador Dalí, and the picturesque fishing village of Cadaqués with its white, winding streets. Nature lovers can explore the approximately 5,000-hectare nature reserve along the Muga River, perfect for long walks and discoveries.

Empuriabrava beautifully combines nature, culture, and holiday comfort, offering everything needed for an unforgettable stay.
