Located near the Mediterranean Sea, it lies in a region renowned for its natural beauty and cultural heritage. Albons boasts a rich and varied history that spans centuries. During the Middle Ages, Albons underwent significant development, with the construction of churches and the layout of the town being characteristic features of that era.
The Castell d'Albons, documented in 1170, marks the origin of the town of Albons. Situated at the highest point of a hill, it is part of the Montgrí Natural Park. The building takes the form of a fortified manor house from the 15th century but has been remodeled multiple times over the centuries. Its architecture includes a large arched gate, stone staircases, and elements from both the medieval and 17th-century periods. Historically, the castle was owned by various noble families and was taken over by the Crown in the 14th century. Today, it is protected as a Cultural Asset of National Interest.
